Innovation through Digitalisation

During the last couple of years, Digitalisation more than ever prooved how beneficial it is to end users, businesses and employees. During the pandemic, the Covid lesson had shown us who is truly ahead of the game and who is lacking behind in achieving the digital transformation of their business. This is witnessed daily in the current economic situation when businesses, end users, and stakeholders still function and harmonise when employees are remotely working at home.

People still wanted to receive a service however this time, without the need of physical contact, without risking their lives during the Pandemic. Businesses had to rethink their business model, upgrade their business processes, workflows to reach the end user, and still provide the service required.

In a nutshell, digitalisation played an important role even to those who were sceptic of technology. More than ever, statistics shall be gathered to see who were those businesses that irrespective of their workplace managed to continue providing a service.  In a new survey, McKinsey & Company stated responses to COVID-19 have speeded the adoption of digital technologies by several years – and that many of these changes could be here for the long haul

In some ways, the COVID pandemic has started a technological revolution for businesses who didn’t embraced digitalisation as they drive innovation in order to succeed. If technology is used efficiently, digital transformation can lead to incredible impact in our daily life as it would reflect the real needs. The impact of digitalization is also cited in the World Economic Forum’s Digital Media and Society report is that it has enhanced the “flexibility for workers and employers, boosting productivity and enabling greater work-life integration”.

GIS Technology as a Key Driver

One key driver in the digital transformation is GIS technology, which acts as an integrator tool to both public and private entities that are taking leverage of location data.  Integrating and leveraging location to create valuable insights and create visual communication are essential factors for digital transformation. What is triggering this process all the more is Web GIS, which is basically based on leveraging Web services. It helps us to work more in real-time. (Chakravarty, 2018)

Nowadays GIS technology is being used as a key platform for digital transformation as this technology is plays a central role to emerging technologies IOT, VR, AR and Big Data. Spatial Data reveal actionable insights when using location intelligence.
